Indigenous Knowledge Storytelling, Documentation and Media Consultant

BRIDGE Project – Lagos State

The Women Environment and Youth Development Initiative (WOYODEV) is seeking a creative and experienced Media, Documentary and Storytelling Consultant to support the implementation of the BRIDGE Project, funded by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

The BRIDGE Project focuses on strengthening intergenerational learning and preserving maritime heritage, skills, experiences, and indigenous knowledge within coastal and riverine communities.

Scope of Assignment

The Consultant will be responsible for documenting project activities and capturing indigenous maritime knowledge, stories, practices, and experiences through high-quality multimedia products.

Key tasks will include:

  • Developing a storytelling and documentation plan for the project.
  • Producing short documentary videos highlighting indigenous maritime heritage and knowledge.
  • Conducting interviews with community elders, women, youth, artisans, fishers, and knowledge holders.
  • Capturing project activities through photography, videography, and written stories.
  • Developing human-interest stories, success stories, and beneficiary profiles.
  • Supporting the creation of digital content for social media, websites, and donor visibility.
  • Producing a final documentary and media package showcasing project outcomes and lessons learned.

Qualifications and Experience

Interested individuals or firms should demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in documentary production, storytelling, photography, and videography.
  • Experience documenting community development, heritage, environmental, cultural, or social impact projects.
  • Strong interviewing, scriptwriting, and content development skills.
  • Ability to work respectfully with local communities and indigenous knowledge holders.
  • Experience producing content for development partners, NGOs, or donor-funded projects.
  • Access to professional documentation equipment and editing software.
  • Experience working in coastal or riverine communities will be an added advantage.

Deliverables

The Consultant will be expected to deliver:

  • Documentation and storytelling plan.
  • High-resolution photo library.
  • Short social media video clips.
  • Human-interest and indigenous knowledge stories.
  • Project success stories and beneficiary profiles.
  • Final documentary video.
  • Edited media package for project visibility and reporting.

Duration

The consultancy will run throughout key phases of project implementation, with deliverables aligned to the project workplan.
