Passage of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition, #VAPP Act in Kwara State to Curb Abuse and Gender Based Violence

Advocacy visit to Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly

On 20th July, 2020, WOYODEV represented by Mrs. Tosin Apiriola-Ajayi, Mrs. Taiwo Oredola, Mrs. Yemisi Ojo, Mr. Michael Olaogun and Miss. Semire Afolayan joined the Commissioner for Social Development, Mrs. Bosede Deborah Aremu, the Perm Sec. Hajia Hafusat Ibrahim, Directors from the Kwara State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, KWMWSD, Civil Society Network: AONN and some NGOs- SAFINNGO, GLOHWOC and OCDI to pay an advocacy visit to the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu.
The visit was to advocate the prompt domestication and implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act in Kwara state.
The Speaker promised to expedite actions on the passing of the bill which has passed the first reading in the House last Thursday. He said due process has to be followed. He said there will be public hearing of the bill which meant that there must be public input but it will be an accelerated bill.

We are grateful to partners for supporting us through this process and we commit to ensuring the domestication of #VAPP Law to support rights and dignity of women, girls PWDs and other vulnerable groups in Kwara State. Below are links to media coverage of the event:
